This application for a Federal ID number is required for all businesses and the ID is needed to pay employment taxes for employees.

Form I-9

The employment eligibility verification form is for all employees. It should be kept in one place apart from the general personnel file in case of an audit to maintain confidentiality.

Form W-4

This federally required form — a signed Employee Withholding Certificate — must be submitted by employees. It indicates the federal income tax they wish to have withheld from their pay.
