Scott Buffington

Scott Buffington serves as vice president and general manager of retirement services at Paychex, a role he assumed in June 2024. Buffington joined Paychex in March 2024 as senior director of national retirement sales responsible for the development and oversight of the strategy, products, and service model for the national retirement sales organization.

Buffington's experience in the financial services and retirement planning industries includes his tenure as founder and CEO of 401kplans.com LLC, a pioneering digital marketplace utilized by many of the largest distributors of retirement plans. Following the acquisition of 401kplans.com LLC by Envestnet, Buffington was named head of sales for the workplace solutions division.

Prior to his entrepreneurial career, Buffington served as the head of sales for MassMutual Retirement Services, overseeing the external sales force. While at MassMutual, he held various leadership positions, including national sales manager and leader of the business development team. Before joining MassMutual, Buffington spent more than a decade at Putnam Investments as a senior vice president, focusing on retirement plan and institutional sales.

Buffington holds degrees in marketing and finance from Western New England University. An avid boater and golfer, he resides in Naples, Florida and enjoys spending time with his family.
